This bird was trapped and ringed. The DNA sequence, established at Aberdeen University, was identical to that from several Kazakhstan specimens of Lesser Whitethroat thought to be S.c. blythi. Svensson and prior DNA work suggest both S.c. blythi and S.c. halimodendri are in a Central Asian clade that is distinct from S.c. curruca.
